A hearing has been held in the cell of a London court, for a 24-year-old man charged with murdering four people within three days of each other.
Unemployed Daniel Gonzalez is accused of stabbing Derek and Jean Robinson at their north London home on Friday.
He is also charged with murdering Marie Harding, 73, near Hove, and Kevin Molloy, 46, in north London.
Mr Gonzalez, from Woking, Surrey, was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey at the end of the month.
The bodies of Derek Robinson, 75, a retired consultant paediatrician and his wife Jean, 68, a retired music teacher, were found at about 0800 BST on Friday at their home in Highgate Hill.

Mr Gonzalez, of Southwood Avenue, Woking, appeared in open court on Monday accused of their murders and was remanded into custody for further questioning.
On Wednesday he was charged with murdering Mr Malloy and Mrs Harding.
At Highbury Magistrates on Thursday, for Mr Gonzalez's second appearance, the district judge took the unusual step of going to the court cell to read out the two charges.
Mr Molloy, a pub landlord, was found stabbed to death in Tottenham High Road, north London by a pedestrian at 0540 BST on Friday.
Mrs Harding, whose body was found on a path in Southwick a week ago, died from a stab wound to the neck on 15 September.
On Thursday, Mr Gonzalez was also charged with the attempted murders of Peter King, 61, in Portsmouth on 15 September, and of Koumis Constantino, in
Frobisher Road, Hornsey, north London, on 17 September.
A further charge of burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, relating to the alleged attack on Mr Constantino, was also read out to him.
There was no application for bail.
