Christ statue watches over store
Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil
Christ the Redeemer dominates the skyline of Rio de Janeiro
A 14-metre tall copy of the famous Brazilian statue Christ the Redeemer is being installed at a London store.

The statue, which has been sent over by the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro where the original stands, is going on display at Selfridges on Oxford Street.

It will mark the beginning of Brasil 40 degrees - a month long event promoting the country's culture and products.

The imitation statue has been designed and built by Abel Gomes, one of Brazil's leading set designers.

Brazilian footballer Denilson will be attending the statues inauguration along with members of Beiga Flor, Rio's award winning samba school.

To coincide with the Selfridges event, the Brazilian embassy in London has said it is organising a programme of cultural events throughout May.
