Future of Royal Parks considered
Hyde Park
Hyde Park is included in proposals to host Olympic events in London
The future of London's eight Royal Parks is being considered by the London Assembly on Wednesday.

Hyde Park, Regents Park, and Greenwich Park are included in proposals to host Olympic events if London's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games is successful.

The assembly will question how this would impact on the parks' management in the future.

The 5,000 hectares of Royal Parks are used by millions of Londoners and tourists every year.

Funding of the parks is also being discussed by the assembly as well as the new role of the Parks Constabulary in the Metropolitan Police Service.

The Department of Culture Media and Sport allocates £24m each year to the Royal Parks Agency.
