A man who was murdered when a gang of up to 20 men stormed into a house with guns and baseball bats was killed in a case of mistaken identity, according to police.
Married security guard Adeel Akabar, 24, died after suffering head and chest injuries during the attack at 2230 BST on Tuesday.
Several other people at the house in Essex Road, Leyton, in east London, were injured after being set upon with bats.
Police said a man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Bryan Sweeting, who is leading the murder inquiry, said Mr Akabar was the unintended victim.
'Open to motives'
"This is absolutely tragic," he said.
"Mr Akabar certainly seems to have been a totally innocent party."
Police are investigating the possibility that the attack was carried out as part of a feud between two families, but a spokesman said "they are open to motives".
He added that the men fled to a nearby Tesco petrol station.
"We are appealing for any motorists who may have been in the petrol station at that time and saw a large group of men," the spokesman said.
"We do not know whether the men made off in vehicles at this stage but would also appeal for anyone who saw any cars making off at speed from the area to come forward."
