A man has been charged with murdering a nurse at a psychiatric hospital in south west London.
Jason Cann, 21, of Springfield Hospital, Tooting, was remanded in custody at the hearing at South Western Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
He was charged with killing Mamade Chattun, 34, who was found on a ward at Springfield Hospital in Tooting at 0230 BST on Tuesday.
Mr Chattum, a nurse at Springfield, was taken to nearby St George's Hospital but died from multiple injuries.
His brother, Mamode Azad Chattun, told BBC London: "It is a tragedy to us, to the whole family. It is a great loss and it is devastating for his children and his wife.
"We are trying to get his body to be released but it has been very difficult because it is a murder case."
In a statement, the hospital described the attack as a "dreadful event" and said all the staff had been very shocked.
Those working on the ward at the time have been given compassionate leave.
The family's lawyer, Sadiq Khan, said they did not know what happened, but added the Commission for Health Improvement had recommended a review of security recently.
Springfield, which is London's largest psychiatric teaching hospital, has begun its own investigation into the attack.
Mr Cann is due to appear again at the Old Bailey on 25 June.
