Robot dispenses drugs at Lincolnshire surgery

Robot at surgery
The robot will dispense thousands of prescriptions

A doctor's surgery in Lincolnshire is one of the first in the country to introduce a robotic system for dispensing patients' prescriptions.

The robot searches for drugs that match the prescriptions issued at the pharmacy at the medical centre in Ancaster.

The surgery has 17,000 prescriptions each month and the robot is thought to make one error in three million issues.

Staff at the surgery double-check each prescription for safety.
