Gangs target supermarket shoppers

Police have warned people in a Lincolnshire town to be vigilant after shoppers were targeted by criminal gangs in supermarket car parks.

The warning comes after incidents at Sainsbury's in Grantham on Tuesday afternoon.

Offenders tried to distract drivers by asking them for directions and showing them a map while they were loading shopping into the car.

While distracted an accomplice tried to search through the vehicle.

Insp Nigel Storey said: "We are asking shoppers to be vigilant and not to be taken in by this technique.

"Just ignore these people and ring us as soon as possible with detailed descriptions."
