Man hurt as bus hits scaffolding

Crash scene
The scaffolding has been forced into the road by the crash

A man has been seriously injured in a fall from scaffolding in Lincolnshire when it was hit by a bus.

The incident took place on Mercer Row in Louth earlier when a Stagecoach bus hit scaffolding on a building.

The man was taken by ambulance to Grimsby Hospital with serious facial and leg injuries but it is not known if his condition is life-threatening.

The road is currently blocked and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

Station Manager Neil Bunch from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service said the scaffolding was a serious risk.

"Because all the ties have been broken out of the wall during the collision, it is quite precarious, it is just balanced there.

"The idea is we are going to winch the rest of the scaffolding to the floor, which will allow the scaffolders to go in and dismantle it."
