Jobs concern at building company

About 200 posts at two Lincolnshire construction firms are threatened after they got into financial difficulties.

The union Ucatt has said workers at UCS civils and UCS plant have been given redundancy notices.

Owners Rand Group said last week it was in talks with its bank over the two subsidiaries but it has not commented on the latest development.

The company is involved in a number of major local building projects including a leisure complex in Louth.

The firm said it would issue a statement later.

Ucatt officials said any job losses would be a further blow for a local economy which is already struggling from a lack of skilled employment opportunities.

East Lindsey District Council - which is using UCS to oversee the multi-million pound leisure centre complex in Louth - said it was aware of difficulties with the company and is working hard to minimise the effect on the new centre.
