Mains pipe flood closes main road

A main road in Lincoln is likely to be sealed off for two days after a water main burst and flooded the area.

Water began to escape on to the High Street near the magistrates' court on Sunday night.

Engineers from Anglian Water tackled the problem for several hours and had repaired the pipe by late morning.

But police said diversions were likely to remain in place while the work was checked and the road surface was properly repaired.

Sara Rowland, from Anglian Water, said: "The burst has been repaired and nobody is without water.

"But we have got the road closed and I'm afraid it is probably going to be probably until late Thursday or even Friday morning before we can open the road, because there was an awful lot of consequential damage to the carriageway and to the path as well."
