Campaigners have insisted there is a public demand to use the hall

Campaigners fighting to save a Lincolnshire landmark have said they are considering legal action. On Tuesday East Lindsey District Council voted to demolish the 100-year-old Horncastle Town Hall, saying it was too expensive to maintain. This was despite a local group asking to be allowed to run the empty building as a community centre. Now the Horncastle Town Hall Working Group has asked for donations so it can seek an injunction to block the move. Town councillor Bill Aron, who is a member of the working group, insisted they would fight on. "There is no other route for us to take. The people of Horncastle and indeed its surrounding villages are right behind us. "What we are saying is, if people really want the building saved, put your money where your mouth is." While acknowledging the group's enthusiasm, the council's executive committee decided its business plan for the hall was not "robust" and keeping it open would be an unacceptable gamble with public money.
