Suspicious item halts RAF parade

An RAF ceremonial parade has been cancelled after a suspicious package was found in a telephone box in a Lincolnshire town.

A bomb disposal team from Nottingham was called to deal with the item which was found in the Market Place, Boston.

But the package was later confirmed not to be an explosive device and a cordon which had been put in place has been lifted, police said.

A Freedom of City parade for RAF personnel was due to begin at 1400 BST.

More than 100 service personnel had been expected to parade through the town.

The decision to cancel the ceremony was made jointly by Lincolnshire Police and RAF officials.
