A man accused of assault after an off-camera incident on the TV chat show Trisha did not turn up to court, saying he was "scared" after being threatened.

A warrant has been issued for Ian Wallace, 24, who is charged with common assault in relation to the alleged attack in Maidstone, Kent, in February.

He failed to answer conditional bail at a hearing before Skegness magistrates.

Mr Wallace, formerly of Spilsby, had a "genuine fear" because of the attention the case had received, the court heard.

'Itinerant's lifestyle'

The alleged assault happened on 12 February during filming at Maidstone Studios for the Five programme.

Ruth Harrop told the court that her client, formerly of Woodland Avenue, "was too scared to come" after receiving threats.

"He has a genuine fear because this is a case that has attracted a huge amount of media attention because of where the alleged assault took place," she told the court.

"He is not here today because he was concerned about his safety.

"He is living an itinerant's lifestyle and is now of no fixed address."
