Investigators also found dog fighting dvds and training equipment

A Lincolnshire man who admitted causing unecessary suffering to dogs has been sentenced to 22 weeks in prison.

RSPCA inspectors found a dead dog in a bin at the Grantham home of 45-year-old John Knibbs last April.

Knibbs, who appeared before the town's magistrates, has also been banned from keeping dogs for 10 years.

Inspectors from the RSPCA's Special Operations Unit also discovered five pit bull terrier-type dogs in Knibbs' back yard.

Dog fighting DVDs and paraphernalia, including breaking sticks, weighing scales and an exercise frame used to train dogs, were also discovered.

Knibbs also admitted causing unnecessary suffering to three dogs.

The case is part of Operation Cannon which is targeting dog fighters.

Footage of the seized fighting dogs was released
