Town considers 10% discount day

Businesses in a Lincolnshire town are considering hosting a local produce discount day in an effort to survive the recession.

At its first meeting on Wednesday, the Spilsby Business Partnership discussed ways to bring people back to the town.

One idea was to offer a one-day promotion where all local produce is reduced by 10%.

The partnership's Angela Morgan-Knight said talks were at an early stage but small businesses had to pull together.

Difficult times

She said: "This sort of thing is vitally important as all of us [businesses] are in a difficult situation.

"When you're talking about small, market towns we have a lot of big corporations who have the ability to hold themselves through a recession whereas small, local businesses find that a bit difficult.

"The 10% day is something we're looking into with the business partnership that would try to encourage local people to use local produce...and enthuse people coming into Spilsby."

Ms Morgan-Knight said the town's business leaders were also looking into the feasibility of having a Spilsby loyalty card.

"We need to be working together to get through this difficult time," she added.
