Car mashed under potato spillage

Crushed car
The potatoes spilled out of the trailer on Wragby Road in Lincoln

A car was crushed by tonnes of potatoes when a trailer carrying the vegetables toppled on to the vehicle.

Lincoln police said the tractor pulling the trailer had moved the crushed car, which was parked and unoccupied, and pushed it into other vehicles.

The load of potatoes which spilled out of the trailer had to be shovelled up to clear Wragby Road.

Lincolnshire Police chipped in by closing the road after the accident, which officers admitted was "unusual".

Pc James Woolerton of the county's Roads Policing Unit said: "We're having to clear the spilt load manually and as soon as we can get some heavy lifting equipment in we'll get on to moving the trailer.

"The tractor has moved the squashed car forward into some other parked cars which we can't move because we don't have the owners here.

"As soon as we can get the load cleared up we're hoping to right the trailer and clear the road."
