Bomb disposal experts have taken away a mortar round discovered in undergrowth near a Lincoln shopping centre.
The bomb was found by a conservation student hedge-laying at Greetwell Hollow near Outer Circle Road.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel conducted a test on the item and found it did not contain explosives.
The Carlton Centre and nearby roads were later reopened. Experts said the device was about nine-years-old and was probably used in a training exercise.
Police officers checked hedges close to where the mortar, described as being about 9in (23cm) long, was found, as a precaution.
