Cold snap halts power line work

Energy supplier Central Networks has said the cold weather means it has suspended plans to cut off the power to a Lincolnshire village.

The firm was due to trim back trees in Bicker near Boston on Monday - which would have left 250 people without electricity for most of the day.

Daytime temperatures have dropped close to freezing several times this week.

A spokesman explained they did not want to leave residents without heat and light during such wintry weather.

He added: "This work had been planned for some time and we had written to the residents about it.

"We had no idea the weather was going to get this cold this quickly so we looked at the situation and listened to our customers and decided to put it off."
