Up to 400 food jobs under threat

Up to 400 jobs could be lost in Lincolnshire after a food manufacturer announced it needed to restructure its business in "challenging times".

Bakkavor, which includes Exotic Farm Produce in Kirton, Freshcook in Holbeach and Bakkavor Spalding, has begun a 90-day consultation with staff.

The Icelandic company has not confirmed how many jobs would be lost, but it is understood it could be up to 400.

Bakkavor employs about 2,000 people across the three sites.

A company spokesperson said: "These are challenging times for the food industry and the group remains cautious about the worsening economic conditions on consumer expenditure on top of ongoing pressures from inflationary costs.

"Bakkavor appreciates that this is a very difficult time for everyone based at these sites and would like to stress that these proposals do not reflect the commitment and hard work of the employees."
