Fire service to get £1.4m boost

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service has been awarded an extra £1.4m to help with major building work and other capital investment projects.

The money, which has been allocated by the government, will be spread over 2009/10 and 2010/11.

Lincolnshire's chief fire officer Mike Thomas said the cash would be used to refurbish stations across the county and build better training facilities.

The £1.4m is part of a £78m fund for fire services across England.

Lincolnshire County Councillor Peter Robinson said: "We have a modern, well-trained fire service with up-to-date equipment.

"Our aim is to bring the facilities in our fire stations to the same level."

Mr Thomas added the money would "allow us to continue the good work in recruiting a broad range of people in today's fire and rescue service".
