Train station in line for revamp

A railway station in Lincolnshire is to get a number of improvements based on comments from a passenger survey.

North Hykeham station will get a revamped shelter, a CCTV system and a new set of cycle lockers.

The £60,000 improvements will be funded by Lincolnshire County Council and several partners including East Midlands Trains and the town council.

Work, which will take place in two phases, is due to start before Christmas, a council spokesman said.

The existing brick shelter will be replaced by a modern three-bay shelter on the Lincoln-bound platform.

The second planned phase includes a new car park, another shelter and a revised bus service serving the station.

The county council's executive member for transport William Webb said: "With other proposals to develop the area surrounding the station, including Teal Park, this marks a great opportunity to improve the rail facilities in advance."
