A baby girl has been found abandoned outside a hospital accident and emergency department.

The child, said to be aged between two and four months, was left in a pushchair outside Grantham Hospital, in Lincolnshire, on Saturday afternoon.

Police said it appeared the girl, white and with a small amount of fair hair, had been previously well cared for.

Officers are trying to trace the parents of the girl, who is in the care of hospital staff and social services.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said the baby was wearing a pink babygrow and was in a grey Mothercare pushchair with grey stripes on it when she was left at about 1500 GMT.

He said officers were trying to identify the baby and called for anyone with information to come forward so the parents' welfare could be checked.
