Farmyard blaze wrecks machinery

Agricultural equipment has been destroyed by fire at a flower farm in Lincolnshire.

Fire crews from Holbeach, Long Sutton and Spalding tackled the blaze on Sluice Road in Holbeach in the early hours of the morning.

A crop sprayer, bulb harvester, along with a large quantity of wooden trays and hedging, was also destroyed.

There are no reports of any injuries and an investigation into the cause the fire has begun.

Paul Poll, who runs the farm, said it could have been far worse.

"Some passers-by saw the flames and rang me up, so I got on the phone to the fire brigade.

"It was lucky the wind was blowing the right way because it kept the flames away from the houses," he said.
