A man has died in a fall from a church tower in Lincolnshire.

The victim fell from the 272ft (83m) tower of St Botolph's Church in Boston - commonly called the Stump - just after 1300 BST.

Police said they are trying to identify the man, who is thought to be local. The Riverside area near the church was closed but has since reopened.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the man's death and have appealed for witnesses.

A police spokesman said: "The investigation is at an early stage but at the moment there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances."
