Police in Lincolnshire are asking parents to ensure children behave over the Halloween and Bonfire Night period.
Local neighbourhood policing teams will also work with schools to let pupils know the consequences of misbehaving.
Officers have joined forces with Trading Standards to advise shops on selling fireworks or flour and eggs.
Sgt Carrie Diamond said the run-up to Halloween and Bonfire Night was a time when police traditionally saw a rise in anti-social behaviour.
She explained that many people could be intimidated by unexpected knocks at the door and advised parents to ensure children avoid places like residential complexes while "trick or treating".
Sgt Diamond added: "People might not realise that behaviour like repeated door knocking, or egg throwing, actually constitutes a criminal offence that could result in a hefty fine or even a prison sentence."
