A 23-year-old Cambridgeshire man has died in hospital, hours after being thrown out of a Lincoln nightclub.

William Pleasants stopped breathing outside The Engine Shed when he was ejected following an altercation early on Saturday morning, police said.

He died in the early hours of Tuesday. The cause of death is not yet known and a Home Office pathologist is due to carry out a post-mortem examination.

Six people were arrested on suspicion of assault and later released on bail.

Couple sought

Police have appealed for witnesses to the altercation inside the club and an incident outside the club in which Mr Pleasants was restrained by door staff.

Officers want to trace a man believed to be involved in the altercation inside who is described as 6ft (1.83m), approximately 20-years-old and of large build.

He is described as wearing a short-sleeved, dark-coloured top and had gelled spiky short hair.

Police would also like to speak to a woman who is believed to have been involved in the altercation.

The woman is approximately 5ft 6in (1.67m), medium build with collar-length hair.

Two sold-out performances for the comedian Frankie Boyle, which were due to take place at the Engine Shed on Tuesday night, were cancelled.
