A 23-year-old Cambridgeshire man remains in intensive care after he was thrown out of a nightclub in Lincoln.

William Pleasants stopped breathing outside The Engine Shed at the city's university after he was ejected early on Saturday morning, police said.

He was taken to Lincoln County Hospital where he remains "very poorly" with internal and other injuries.

Six people - five men and a woman - were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been released on bail.

No weapon

Police said Mr Pleasants was visiting his sister, a university student in Lincoln.

"He had number of injuries to his body and some internal injuries, but a weapon did not seem to be involved," Det Supt Roger Bannister said.

"Police do not know how he came to be injured.

"I am aware of many people in the club at some time - and I know there is a lot of talk in the city about what happened… please come forward and help police find out how this young man has ended up so poorly in hospital."

Police have also asked for a man wearing a short-sleeved yellow T-shirt who was at the venue at the time to contact them.
