Cable thefts delay train services

Train passengers in Lincolnshire have faced more disruption after thieves stole 65 metres of copper cable.

The high voltage cable was stolen from railway tracks near Collingham, resulting in some trains between Newark and Swinderby being cancelled.

The high price of scrap metal has seen incidents of theft increase but police said they were taking action stop it.

Network Rail warned that taking the cables not only caused delays but could be dangerous as they were often live.

Increased patrols

Rachel Blackman from Network Rail said it was a constant battle.

"We have special teams that go out on the network and we have helicopters that go round," she said.

"We have teams which are sent out quickly to any reported incidents and a lot more patrols.

"We are doing everything we can to cut down on these thefts."
