Attack raises council cash fears

A Lincolnshire council has started a review on how it handles cash in public after a vehicle was attacked.

East Lindsey District Council has removed change machines from some toilets after the attack this month.

A spokesman said the machines, which can be refilled several times a day, represented a security concern.

The review, which is due to be completed by October, will also look at the process for collecting money from pay and display machines in car parks.

The council's Regulatory Services team leader, Duncan Hollingworth, explained: "The decision to remove the change machines is difficult as it has implications for the public and we are keen to maintain a helpful service.

"The review will identify a sensible and safe solution that will balance safety against convenience."
