Teenagers help with clean-up work

Police in a Lincolnshire district are joining teenagers in some clean-up projects as part of a new venture.

The north neighbourhood policing team in Gainsborough meets the 11 to 16-year-olds once a week.

West Lindsey District Council street wardens are also involved in the 10-week programme in Scotter.

The young people have already worked on painting fences, picking up litter and weeding. They have also played cricket and volleyball with the officers.

PCSO Penny Smith said: "It's a great opportunity for us to engage with young people and get them involved in something positive for their community.

"When we did litter picking we got about 15 bags of rubbish and the kids really enjoyed it. They also have the session of sport to follow which keeps us all motivated."
