Fuel bills may force pool to shut

Billinghay open air pool
Staff fear the pool may not be open for the school holidays

A charity-run swimming pool in Lincolnshire is facing closure after nearly 40 years because of crippling fuel bills.

Billinghay open air pool has increased its charges and found the most competitive supplier.

But staff there said they were doubtful the facility could remain open until the school holidays.

Pool committee member Jo-Ann Clegg said if it did close that would be a big loss to the community.

She added that the cost of heating the pool, which opened in 1972, had more than doubled since last year - amounting to around £1,222.
