Residents quizzed on resort plans

People living in a Lincolnshire coastal resort are being asked for their views on how it should be developed.

Every household in Skegness will be sent a questionnaire asking what they want to see in the town centre, particularly on the southern foreshore.

It is part of campaign running over the next few months which will also include visitor surveys, adverts, posters and displays put up in the resort.

Developers will then be asked to come up with proposals for the site.

'Family resort'

East Lindsey District Council will then shortlist plans for up to three developments which will be on display in the resort next summer.

Gary Sargeant, East Lindsey District Council's business manager for economic development, said uses for the site could include a new hotel, retail complex or new leisure facility.

"The residents deserve for the town to move forward and we want to make sure that Skegness is still seen as a good holiday destination.

"The use needs to be compatible with the town centre... and Skegness as a family resort but it's up to the imaginations of residents and visitors," he said.

It is thought the new development could be up and running by 2012.
