A man has been remanded in custody over the death of a three-year-old girl who died after a mini-motorcycle collision.

Abbie Louise Perris, from Monks Dyke Road in Louth, Lincolnshire, was riding on the bike's petrol tank when it was in collision with a truck on Monday.

George Franklin, 22, also from Monks Dyke Road, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and remanded "for his own protection".

Mr Franklin will appear at Lincoln Crown Court on 4 June.

Mr Franklin, Abbie's mother's partner, was driving the bike at the time of the collision.

Prosecuting solicitor Sue Holden told the court: "Mr Franklin is remanded in to custody also for his own protection. It is not in his interests to go back (home)."

'Full of fun'

The collision happened on the footpath of Monks Dyke Road as the truck left a garage access road.

Abbie suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Grimsby Hospital where she later died.

The truck driver was not injured.

The toddler's grandmother, Carol Pocklington, said in a statement: "We only had Abbie for three, short years but every day she was so full of fun and happy-go-lucky.

"The family are all totally and utterly devastated but we are pulling together and drawing strength from each other. Abbie will be missed by all so much."
