Iron Age settlement discovered
An ancient Iron Age settlement has been discovered beneath Roman deposits being examined in Lincolnshire.

The discovery, featured on Channel Four's Time Team Programme, was made at Wickenby near Market Rasen.

The dig's lead archaeologist, Dr Francis Pryor, said the whole project proved very exciting and rewarding.

"Very unexpectedly, underneath all the Roman deposits we found a very large, deep prehistoric ditch and bank, which dated to the Iron Age," he said.

The team also discovered mounting evidence to suggest the local Roman population were keen on recycling.
