Rape charge accused found hanged
A prisoner awaiting trial charged with rape and wounding has been discovered hanging in his cell at Lincoln Prison, the Prison Service has said.

Staff tried to resuscitate Steven Neil Weir, 35, after he was found on Sunday morning, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The prisoner, of no fixed address, was on remand awaiting trial in Nottingham.

A Prison Office spokesman said: "Our sympathies are with the family of Mr Weir at this time."

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation into his death.
