Major roadworks begin in county
Drivers in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are being warned to allow extra time for journeys as major roadworks begin.

The Highways Agency is starting a £2m improvement scheme on the A52 between Whatton Prison and Elton Road.

The 13 mile (21km) stretch will be resurfaced and part of the carriageway rebuilt, officials said.

Most of the work will take place overnight but there will be some 24-hour closures at weekends.

The work is expected to be completed by April.

A 40mph speed limit will be put in place, as well as temporary traffic lights. Traffic will be diverted from the Saxondale roundabout at Bingham up the A46 towards Newark.

Highways Agency project manager Kamaljit Khokhar said: "The work is necessary to ensure the continued safe provision of the A52 and to avoid the need for unplanned emergency repairs.

"When complete, road users will get a safer, smoother and quieter ride."
