Woman dies at railway crossing

British Transport Police are investigating the death of a woman who was hit by a train on a railway crossing in Lincoln.

The 86-year-old woman was hit at near Doddington Road level crossing on Thursday morning.

The train driver has told officers the woman stepped onto the footpath crossing unaware a train was coming.

The Railway Accident Investigation Branch is also conducting an inquiry into the death.

British Transport Police spokesman Chris Connell said: "We are going to make sure the crossing conforms with regulations - which at the moment it looks like it does."
