Residents spend second night away
flooding in Bransby near Saxilby
Rain and flooding blocked roads in parts of Lincolnshire
Almost 200 residents from a block of flats in Lincoln have spent a second night away from their homes after parts of the city were flooded.

The city council said it was doing all it could to make Shuttleworth House safe for people to return.

Water in Bransby, near Saxilby, has receded overnight. Villagers were on alert on Wednesday when a pump failed at the River Till.

But more rain is forecast and residents are being told to look out for floods.

Most roads have now reopened but the A1500 near Bransby is closed because of flooding, as is Kesteven Street in Lincoln.

Shuttleworth House was evacuated on Tuesday when the River Witham overflowed its banks in Lincoln and fire crews had to move people from 120 flats by dinghy.

Ian Reed, from Lincolnshire's emergency planning team, said there had been no choice but to evacuate.

He said: "There are problems with power at Shuttleworth House, so it has been necessary to evacuate it for safety reasons, and we have put people up at Lincoln College."

About 400 homes were also evacuated on Monday night - most of them in Louth. Horncastle was also badly affected.

Dozens of roads in the north of the county had to close and drivers were warned to take care.

Several inches of standing water were reported on some roads in Grantham, Lincoln, Louth and Horncastle.
