Village suffers vandalism spree
Vandals have attacked a quiet Lincolnshire village eight times in the past two months.

In the latest incident 40 street lights were put out in Washingborough with the nearby villages of Heighton and Branston reporting similar attacks.

The Parish Council said it was considering hiring its own security guards to patrol the village because police have not caught the culprits.

Lincolnshire Police said it was still investigating the problems.

The vandals have been caught on CCTV but so far they have not been identified.

They have being opening up the panels on the street lights, pulling out the timing mechanism and the wiring.

Previously windows have been smashed, the community centre damaged and trees torn down.

Brian Frankham, chairman of Washingborough Parish Council, said: "We share the policing resource with a number of other villages, obviously the police presence in the village is not that noticeable.

"We have talked of the possibility of employing our own village security so at least we have coverage all of the evening and night because the police presence here is only a matter of minutes in an evening - if at all.

Officials at Lincolnshire Police added they were also developing a new model of policing aimed at giving greater accessibility for communities with the police.
