Temporary safety fence 'failing'
bus crash
The area around the theme park is temporarily cordoned off
Campaigners calling for a road outside an Ingoldmells theme park to be pedestrianised after a crash which killed five say it is still unsafe.

Joanna Warren from Leicester was killed with her sons Jacob aged five and four-month-old Leyton with Richard and Paula Rhodes from Mansfield.

Their families want better protection for pedestrians on the road which is often crowded with tourists.

Thousands of people have signed a petition demanding traffic is banned.

Charges brought

Mrs Rhodes' father Neal Cooper said the temporary barrier put up after the bus crash in Easter 2004 was ignored by drivers who mounted the kerb to get around it.

The area outside Fantasy Island has been temporarily cordoned off for this holiday season.

It is to be pedestrianised at a later date.

Bus driver Stephen Topasna, 51, from Louth, has been charged with five counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and one charge of driving without due care and attention.

The bus company, Lincolnshire Roadcar, faces prosecution for an offence of using a vehicle with defective brakes in connection with the crash on 11 April 2004.
