The shortage of foster carers in Lincolnshire is at critical levels according to social services.
An extra 60 carers are needed to look after around 80 children who are mostly being placed outside the county.
Lincolnshire social services says it cannot compete with the independent sector, which pays carers around £350 a week compared with their £100.
Simon Payne, from Lincolnshire Social Services, said it was vital more carers are found.
He said: "When children need to come into care and we haven't got a place inside Lincolnshire, we have to find a place outside, usually at higher cost and of course much further away from the child's family, and this makes contact difficult."
