Robert Edward Dickenson appeared before Lincoln City magistrates on Monday accused of killing 66-year-old George Wilson.
Mr Wilson was found with bullet wounds at his home in Webster Close, Lincoln, last Friday.
He died shortly after being taken to Lincoln County Hospital.
Mr Dickenson was discovered by police later that day with injuries and was taken to hospital where he was kept under police guard.
He was released from hospital on Sunday and taken to a police station where he was questioned by officers.
