Braunstone crash death father and son named

A 53-year-old man and his son who were killed along with a 12-year-old girl in a head-on car crash in Leicester, have been identified by police.

Michael Stannett, from Whetstone, and his son David Stannett, 26, from Kirby Muxloe, were in a Toyota Celica when it collided with two cars in Braunstone.

They were in collision with a Chrysler Voyager and a Vauxhall Corsa which had been travelling in the other way.

Samantha Arnold, 12, who was in the Chrysler, died later in hospital.

'Serious' condition

The girl's 35-year-old mother, who had been driving, and her 15-year-old sister were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The mother's condition is described as serious but stable and the sister's condition is said to be stable.

The 40-year-old driver of the Corsa and his 12-year-old daughter were not hurt in the crash at Lubbesthorpe Way, Braunstone, at 2020 BST on Saturday.

Police said the Celica had crossed the carriageway.
