Market attackers caught on CCTV

A refuse collector suffered a broken nose when he was attacked in the centre of Leicester by a man and woman as a young child watched.

Officers said the refuse collector was sweeping up at the Market Place when he was attacked.

CCTV footage shows the attack and the worker attempting to defend himself.

The victim also suffered bruising to his face in the assault. The attackers are described as an 18-year-old man and a woman aged about 35 to 40.

Leicestershire Police said the man and woman ran off along Cheapside following the attack on on 22 September and turned right towards the Clock Tower when the victim managed to call police for help.

The man is white and around 5'11" tall. He was wearing a white t-shirt, jeans and white shoes.

The woman is white, around 5'2" tall. She has mousey hair and was wearing a white t-shirt, jeans and white trainers.

Det Con Graham Smith, said: "Thankfully the victim was not seriously injured but the incident has left him extremely shocked by what happened.

"Please take a look at these images. Do you recognise these people?

"Maybe they live in your local street or you have seen them in your local area. We have spoken to several people who witnessed the attack but it is not too late for anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch with us."
