Views sought on £70m council cuts

People in Leicestershire are being asked to help the county council decide where to make budget savings of £70m.

Questionnaires are being sent to 6,000 randomly selected residents urging them to indentify priority services and efficiency cuts.

The authority is facing a budget deficit and expects to have its funding from the government cut.

The consultation takes place until 7 December. The council will then decide on its budget in February.

Leicestershire County Council's chief executive, John Sinnott, said: "It is clear that over the coming years, we will be faced with some very hard choices about services.

"It is therefore very important that any decisions on spending priorities and service reductions take account of the views of local residents."
