Council to issue new litter fines

Council officers have been given new powers to fine those caught dropping litter in a Leicestershire district.

Civil enforcement officers at Blaby District Council will be able to give fixed penalty notices of up to £75.

They will be issued to anyone caught dropping litter, daubing graffiti or fly-posting in the area.

A council spokesman said the new powers would give a highly visible and proactive response to environmental crimes.
