Agency finds 18 illegal workers

Eighteen illegal immigrants have been caught working in Leicestershire as part of a crackdown in the county.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) said nine men and one woman, aged between 28 and 53 and from India, were arrested in Leicester on 3 November.

Two Albanian men, aged 27 and 29 were arrested in Coalville, and one 23-year-old man from Iraq was arrested in Ashby-de-la-Zouch on 25 October.

Five Indian men aged from 23 to 30 were arrested in Leicester on 22 October.

The 29-year-old Albanian man was removed from the UK on 31 October.

The UKBA's East Midlands Local Immigration Team said it was "taking steps to remove all the remaining immigration offenders as soon as possible".

All of the businesses visited have been issued with on-the-spot penalty notices for employing illegal workers and could face an additional fine of up to £10,000 for each illegal worker.
