The service runs to the city centre starting at 7am
A park and ride facility at Enderby in Leicester has opened after months of building work.
Single-decker buses will run from the £9.2m site - which boasts 1,000 car parking spaces - to Leicester city centre from 7am until 7pm.
Tony Kirk, city council manager for transport, said the terminal building is heated by geo-thermal energy.
The car park and terminus building opened earlier, although the service does not start until 16 November.
'Swift journeys'
A fleet of six 50-seater buses will run on the latest low-emission technology, the city council said.
It will cost £3 to use the service for a day. Five people using one car will be charged £3.50.
Cabinet member for regeneration and transport Councillor Patrick Kitterick said: "Journeys will be swift because the route will make use of existing bus lanes to avoid traffic congestion.
"It will help to cut congestion on city and county roads, which should have a positive impact on the reduction of noise and pollution."
