Burglars steal toys from nursery

Staff at a Leicestershire nursery said children had been left distressed after burglars stole toys.

Thieves smashed their way into a toy shed in the garden at Saint George's nursery in Enderby last week and took items including bikes and buggies

A door will need to be replaced and, while they are insured, the nursery faces paying an excess.

But acting manager Lisa Anderson admitted she was more concerned that the children had been upset.

Hard truth

Ms Anderson said: "We had to sit them down and just explain to them that someone had taken the things they play with.

"That was really hard, sitting in front of a group of three and four year olds because they just ask why - why have they gone?"

She added: "Some of them were quite shocked and one little girl put her head in her hands and said 'That is really bad. Why?'.

"And another one said 'Have we been naughty?' It is so hard to explain to them but we had to be truthful."

Police confirmed they were investigating the theft.
