Councils get tough on fly-tippers

Fly-tipping
Eight councils have pledged to work together to tackle fly-tipping

Councils across Leicestershire have joined forces to improve the tracking and prosecution of fly-tippers.

The new crackdown involves sharing intelligence and resources to stop rubbish being dumped in the county.

Eight authorities have signed an agreement promising to tackle the problem of fly-tipping countywide.

Councillor Sarah Russell, a cabinet member on Leicester City Council, said: "Fly-tipping can be a blight across the city and county."

She added: "Working closely with neighbouring authorities will be vital to our success in developing intelligent enforcement methods to fight this type of crime."
